THOR Journey Into Mystery #85 MARVEL COMICS 1962 1st app Loki & Asgard

Original unrestored October 1962 issue of Journey Into Mystery #85 featuring stories by Stan Lee and Larry Lieber, art by Steve Ditko, Jacket Kirby and Don Heck. Silver age key includes the first appearances of Loki, Heimdall and Asgard! I'm not a professional comics grader, so please refer carefully to the images.

If experts viewing this listing advise me that the book is better or lesser than my amateur (but not naive) assessment, I will adjust accordingly. For now, as I say, please focus on the photos with the description as guide to viewing them. The positives are that there is no chipping and only two minor (short) closed tears at back cover only - including at spine bottom and at about the middle of the back cover's opening edge. Pages are supple and creamy. Though certainly yellowed, they're not tan or darker.

Cover is firmly and securely attached at both staples, but the staples have rust. No holes or coupon cuts, nor any writing in the interior, but there is light moisture staining along bottom rear cover (again, see photos). For emphasis, I will restate: there has been no restoration of any kind attempted on this book.

The cover is cut slightly lower than most extant copies, which means the artwork is higher, i. The bleed of blue sky at the top is cropped closer than most copies, and as such, the title,'Journey Into Mystery' is closer to the top edge, but this also means about 1/8" to 1/4" more of the detail at the bottom of Jack Kirby's cover art - which is lost on most copies - is present and visible on this copy. For example, with regard to the bystander holding a cane at the bottom: on most copies, his hand holding the cane is bisected, but on this copy, his entire hand and details beneath, including his wrist, cuff. And some of his sleeve are visible. The negatives include corner and spine creasing (please refer to photos), and what appears to be a date in ink on the cover apparently written by the vendor who received this copy on 8-6 (August 6th 1962) with initials'MC'. A close-up of this writing on the cover is provided among the images. In all, an excellent candidate for restoration if that is wished, but rather unusual as-is for having none.
